Three burglars raided the £2 million Italian villa of Cremonese star Jamie Vardy and his wife Rebekah by Lake Garda, stealing approximately £80,000 worth of valuables while the couple was attending a Serie A match.
The family home of Jamie and Rebekah Vardy, located by the shores of Lake Garda in the picturesque northern Italian town of Salo, was broken into by a gang of three burglars on Sunday, according to a report from the Daily Mail, as cited by Goal.com.
The incident occurred while the former Leicester City and England striker was playing for Cremonese in their 3-1 home defeat against Roma, with his wife Rebekah Vardy also attending the match.
The gang gained entry to the £2 million property, which is around an hour’s drive from Cremona, via a window that was reportedly left open.
The report states that the thieves escaped with £80,000 worth of valuables, including cash, jewellery, and a Patek Philippe watch, suggesting the house may have been scouted beforehand to learn when it would be empty.
Local police captain Giacomo Tessarolo confirmed the details, stating:
“We have CCTV which shows the individuals entering the house through a window that was left open. They were on the premises for several minutes before escaping with the [Patek Philippe] watch and several other high value items.
There was a woman inside, not his wife but the baby sitter. The theft was discovered when some of Vardy’s friends returned to the house and found items on the floor and it had evidently been broken into.”
The Vardy family had reportedly immersed themselves in their new Italian life, making their presence visible in the community of Salo.
The unsettling burglary makes the incident doubly cruel, compounding Vardy’s disappointment following his team’s defeat.
