The USMNT earned a 2-1 comeback win over World Cup-bound Australia on Tuesday, but the victory was overshadowed by an injury to captain Christian Pulisic. Haji Wright’s brace secured Mauricio Pochettino’s second win over a World Cup-qualified side since taking charge.
Jordan Bos opened the scoring for Australia in the 19th minute before Pulisic went down injured following a tackle from Jason Geria. The AC Milan star was substituted in the 28th minute and walked straight to the locker room, visibly frustrated.
After the match, Pochettino confirmed: “I think he feels something in his hamstring, but tomorrow he will fly to Italy. Tonight we will assess. We’ll see.” The injury could rule Pulisic out of Milan’s Serie A clash with Fiorentina on Sunday.
Pochettino also pointed to the contrasting climates affecting players: “When you train in 35 degrees and then play in cold altitude… it’s a massive risk.”
