Manchester United urges government support for its £2bn, 100,000-seat stadium project expected to boost the UK economy.
Manchester United’s chief operating officer, Collette Roche, has said the club’s proposed 100,000-seater stadium would deliver economic benefits beyond football, urging government support for the ambitious project.
The plan aims to replace the ageing Old Trafford with a modern venue that would become the largest in Europe, just behind Barcelona’s redeveloped Nou Camp. Roche argued the project could generate up to £7.3 billion for the UK economy, transforming the surrounding area into a hub for jobs, infrastructure, and tourism.
“This is bigger than Manchester United,” Roche said. “It’s about what this could mean for the region and the country.”
While details of funding remain under discussion, the club hopes the redevelopment will set a new benchmark for Premier League facilities. The proposed design would also improve transport links and local business opportunities, pending approval and financial guarantees.
