Tajon Buchanan has signed a permanent deal with Villarreal CF after a successful loan spell. The Canadian international, who won the Serie A title with Inter Milan, is eager to make his mark on the Champions League with his new club. His pace, skill, and international experience make him a valuable asset to Villarreal as they embark on the new season.
Tajon Buchanan has traded the San Siro for the Estadio de la Cerámica, completing a permanent transfer to Villarreal CF from Inter Milan. The move follows a successful loan spell during the latter half of the 2024-25 season, where Buchanan quickly impressed, making 13 appearances, scoring once, and contributing two assists for the Yellow Submarine.
The 26-year-old Canadian international has signed a five-year contract, immediately joining Villarreal's pre-season training camp. He expressed his delight at returning to the club, stating, “Villarreal is an incredible club that deserves to play in the Champions League. I am very happy to return here. I am happy and excited to play in the Champions League. I want to prove that I am capable of returning to my best level in one of the biggest competitions in the world.”
While Buchanan celebrated a Serie A title and the Supercoppa Italiana with Inter in 2023-24, regular playing time proved elusive at the San Siro. The move to Villarreal presents an opportunity to solidify his place as a key player and compete in Europe's top club competition.
Buchanan's journey has taken him from the MLS with the New England Revolution to Club Brugge in Belgium before his time in Italy. His international career is equally impressive, boasting 51 caps for Canada, including three appearances at the 2022 World Cup and a recent three-goal performance in the CONCACAF Gold Cup. With his pace, skill, and proven international pedigree, Buchanan is poised to become a fan favorite in Villarreal's exciting new campaign.
