Mason Greenwood was in devastating form, scoring four goals as Marseille demolished Le Havre 6-2 to sensationally leapfrog Paris Saint-Germain and take the top spot in Ligue 1. The 24-year-old’s four goals made him the first Marseille player to achieve the feat since Jean-Pierre Papin in 1991.
Marseille have climbed to the top of the Ligue 1 table after Mason Greenwood scored four goals to inspire a commanding 6-2 victory over Le Havre. The result sees Marseille replace rivals Paris Saint-Germain at the summit.
The game initially saw Le Havre take a 24th-minute lead, but the momentum shifted dramatically when Gaultier Lloris was sent off for a handball, allowing Greenwood to level from the resulting penalty.
The 24-year-old then erupted, scoring three goals in a blistering 10-minute spell after the hour mark. Robinio Vaz and Amir Murillo added late goals to confirm the rout.
Greenwood’s historic haul means he is the first Marseille player to score four goals in a single Ligue 1 game since club legend Jean-Pierre Papin in January 1991.
His 27 goals in the French top-flight also equal the highest tally for an English player in the division since Glenn Hoddle in the 1947-48 season, highlighting his pivotal role in Marseille’s aggressive, record-setting attack.
