Jamie Carragher says Mohamed Salah should be benched for Liverpool’s next two games, insisting Arne Slot must make a tough call due to the forward’s dip in form.
Jamie Carragher has urged Liverpool boss Arne Slot to drop Mohamed Salah for the team’s next two games following their 2-1 defeat to Manchester United at Anfield.
Salah’s struggles in front of goal continued as he failed to convert two clear chances, extending his run to seven Premier League matches without a non-penalty goal — his longest since joining Liverpool.
Speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast, Carragher said: “I think we’re at that stage now where Mo Salah shouldn’t be a guaranteed starter every week. I do think this is a real conundrum for the manager going forward.”
He added that Salah should not be treated as “a Virgil van Dijk” who is “first name on the teamsheet,” especially given his current form. The former defender advised Slot to rest Salah for the Champions League trip to Eintracht Frankfurt and the Premier League clash at Brentford.
Carragher explained, “When you get to a certain age you have to understand that, especially when you’re not playing well, where’s your argument?”
