Football pundit Wayne Rooney has heavily criticised Liverpool’s £125m record signing, Alexander Isak, after the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United, the club’s fourth consecutive loss.
Isak, signed from Newcastle in September, has managed one goal in seven games and failed to score in three straight Premier League starts, all ending in defeat.
Rooney insists this poor form makes the Swede undeserving of a starting spot over teammate Hugo Ekitike, who has netted four goals since his arrival.
Speaking on The Wayne Rooney Show, Rooney blamed Isak’s struggles on his delayed transfer and lack of preparation.
“I wouldn’t play Isak, he hasn’t looked ready since coming from Newcastle,” Rooney said. He argued Isak missed training to secure his move, stating: “While Newcastle were training, he was probably sat at home on the phone to his agent for six hours a day, trying to get a move.”
“It’s so difficult when you don’t have a pre-season… he’s paying the price for it. On performances, he doesn’t deserve to be playing ahead of Ekitike.”
