Tottenham Hotspur head coach Thomas Frank is on the cusp of setting a new club record in the Champions League as the Lilywhites prepare to face Monaco on Wednesday evening in the league phase.
Frank can become the first manager in Tottenham’s history to remain unbeaten in his first three Champions League matches should his side secure at least a point at the Stade Louis-II.
The Europa League winners have made a strong start to their top-level European campaign, currently sitting ninth in the 36-team ranking with four points from six available. Spurs opened their account with a 1-0 victory over Villarreal at home, followed by a tense 2-2 stalemate away to Norwegian outfit Bodo/Glimt.
The feat would see Frank surpass the records of previous Spurs managers like Mauricio Pochettino, José Mourinho, and Antonio Conte. While Pochettino did guide the team through the first three games of the 2017-18 CL season without defeat (two wins, one draw), he lost his very first Champions League match in charge—coincidentally, a 2-1 defeat to Monaco in the 2016-17 campaign. Mourinho and Conte also suffered defeats early in their respective European tenures.
