FC Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal is poised to secure yet another historic milestone in the UEFA Champions League during today’s match against Olympiacos.
According to Mundo Deportivo, if the young forward takes the field, he will make his 25th appearance in Europe’s elite club competition. At just 18 years and 100 days old, Yamal would shatter the current record held by Paris Saint-Germain’s Zaire Emery, who reached the benchmark at 19 years and 32 days.
Yamal has been breaking records since his introduction to the competition. He became the youngest player to start a Champions League match at 16 years and 83 days, and later the youngest to feature in a knockout stage game against Napoli.
Furthermore, at 17 years and 241 days, he became the youngest player to both score and assist in a single European match against Benfica.
In his 24 previous Champions League outings, Yamal has already helped Barcelona to 14 victories, while contributing five goals and six assists. Despite his tender age, he has delivered standout performances against top European sides, including Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, and Borussia Dortmund.
The rapid accumulation of appearances highlights his indispensable role in the team, evolving from a raw talent to a key figure in decisive moments.
The report suggests that Yamal “no longer needs to prove his place in the Champions League” and is now expected “to lead Barcelona in decisive moments, from quarterfinals to semifinals, and potentially to the final itself.”
