Luis Enrique praises PSG after strange season start

Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has praised his squad for navigating a “very strange and very difficult” beginning to the season, crediting them after the Champions League holders thrashed Bayer Leverkusen 7-2 on Tuesday.

The victory, PSG’s first seven-goal away haul in Europe, moved the club to the top of the league phase and equaled their longest winning run in the competition. Enrique noted that the lack of a proper pre-season following their Club World Cup exploits had made the start challenging.

The coach revealed his pride in his players’ adaptation and is now targeting further European success.

”This start to the season has been very strange and very difficult for us. We got over this moment,” said Luis Enrique.

He added, setting out the club’s ambitious goal: “We are looking to win everything again this season. We have confidence from last year. Our goal is real and true.”

Enrique concluded by reinforcing the team’s European aspirations: “Today in Paris, you know that you can win the Champions League with PSG. The first is always the most difficult trophy. It’s a pride to coach a team like that.”
