Cristiano Ronaldo Jr., 15, has been named in Portugal’s U16 squad for the first time for a tournament in Turkey, continuing his progression through the national youth ranks.
The family name Ronaldo is set to continue its legacy on the international stage, with Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. earning his first call-up to the Portugal U16 squad.
The 14-year-old forward, who plays in the academy of Saudi club Al Nassr, where his father currently stars, was named in the 22-man roster for the Federation Cup, a youth tournament in Turkey.
The call-up follows Ronaldo Jr.’s strong performance with Portugal’s U15s earlier this year, where he scored “two goals in four appearances” during a development tournament.
While the younger Ronaldo continues his rapid rise, his famous father, Cristiano Ronaldo Sr., remains keen to manage the pressure on him. The senior Ronaldo celebrated the news, sharing a message on social media: “Proud of you, son!”
He previously spoke about his son’s ambition, stating: “He’s 14 years old, he has pressure already to be the son of Cristiano [senior].
Let him do his own mistakes, but I hope that in the future he can be a professional player.” The junior forward’s selection brings the potential for a rare father-son scenario in professional football one step closer.
