The controversial transfer of striker Nick Woltemade to Newcastle United has resurfaced, with Bayern Munich director Max Eberl claiming the player originally wanted to join the German giants.
Eberl stated that the forward “repeatedly confirmed to us that he absolutely wanted to join FC Bayern, but VfB Stuttgart was unwilling to accept our offer.”
This fresh comment follows previous remarks by Bayern legend Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who blasted Newcastle as “idiots” for paying the club-record £69 million fee to Stuttgart after Bayern’s €60 million bid was rejected.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe quickly dismissed the persistent criticism regarding the valuation of the 23-year-old, who has already scored five goals for the Magpies. Howe told reporters: “I always say with these types of things, it’s irrelevant really, the market dictates him to transfer fees, not necessarily any one club.”
He added that the club is “very pleased” with Woltemade’s strong start, emphasizing the focus remains on the pitch performance, not the German club’s lingering disappointment.
