UCL Player Ratings: Estevao Willian star with 8/10 in Chelsea’s big win over Ajax

Chelsea dismantled a 10-man Ajax side 5-1 in the Champions League, with teenagers Estevao and Marc Guiu stealing the show, both becoming the club’s youngest Champions League goalscorers on a record-breaking night.

Player ratings

Filip Jorgensen (6.0/10): Almost denied Wout Weghorst from the spot in the only time he was called into action on the night.

Wesley Fofana (8.0/10): Assisted the opening goal and dealt with every Ajax threat.

Moises Caicedo (7.5/10): Started at right-back but was influential in the middle of the park. Scored the second goal and was taken off at halftime.

Tosin Adarabioyo (5.0/10): A sloppy stamp on the foot of Raul Moro handed Ajax a penalty and a lifeline. Picked up a yellow for his troubles, and there was no need for Maresca to risk another red card, so he was replaced at half-time by Trevoh Chalobah.

Jorriel Hato (7.2/10): Got a huge cheer from the travelling Ajax fans. Drew a slightly more muted, but no less appreciative, applause from Maresca after making a superb dart back to win the ball late on in the second-half. Growing in confidence, having been thrust into Chelsea’s starting lineup following a spate of injuries and suspensions.

Romeo Lavia (7.0/10): Steadily building his way back to full fitness, he could not have asked for an easier evening’s work as he popped the ball about under little to no pressure. His pass through the lines opened up the opportunity from which George would eventually score.

Enzo Fernandez (7.6/10): A well-taken penalty restored Chelsea’s two-goal lead before half-time. Showed a touch of class to hand Estevao the ball for Chelsea’s second penalty. Replaced at half-time, with the game all but wrapped up.

Facundo Buonanotte (6.0/10): On the end of a nasty challenge from Kenneth Taylor, but got straight back on his feet to cross the ball that led to Chelsea’s opener. Rather anonymous thereafter despite Chelsea’s man advantage.

Estevao Willian (8.6/10): This kid has bucketloads of ability and confidence to boot. Really enjoyed himself, with plenty of space to play with after Taylor’s dismissal. Finished with aplomb from the spot to become the Youngest goalscorer in Chelsea’s Champions League history. Showed his age with a rash tackle after the break that brought him a yellow card. Should have had a second goal when he shot wide from George’s inviting cross.

Jamie Bynoe-Gittens (7/10): Eager to impress after a slow start to his Chelsea career, he was a constant threat down the left and set the ball back for Caicedo to score. Would have felt frustrated not to get in on the goals, with Chelsea dominant.

Marc Guiu (7/10): Gave Chelsea the lead from Fofana’s header back across goal, reward for a performance that showed plenty of energy and endeavour. A tad unlucky to be replaced at half-time.
