Italian Football Rocked: Serie B side seized over Camorra infiltration

Italian football club SS Juve Stabia, which currently competes in Serie B, has been placed under judicial administration following an extensive anti-mafia investigation.

The action was ordered by anti-mafia prosecutors in Naples after they uncovered what was described as a pervasive system of “mafia-style influence” over the club by a local Camorra organised crime group.

The team, based in Castellammare di Stabia, was allegedly infiltrated by the D’Alessandro clan, a faction of the Camorra. Investigators found that the crime group had controlled essential club activities, including ticketing, catering, cleaning, healthcare, and even travel services for the first team.

The club’s current owners, who recently saw Nasdaq-listed Brera Holdings acquire a 52% stake, are said to have inherited these deeply rooted economic relationships and failed to implement adequate control measures.

Naples prosecutor Nicola Gratteri summarized the depth of the infiltration, stating that it was “a complete, all-round package,” noting: “Players just had to play, while the Camorra took care of the rest.”

The judicial administration move allows the club to continue its sporting activities while court-appointed administrators supervise operations. The step is designed to “restore legality and transparency in management, interrupting the mafia facilitation circuit that had taken root.

This intervention follows similar recent action taken against third-tier club Crotone, as Italian authorities intensify their efforts to combat organised crime infiltration in national sport.
