Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim addressed the media ahead of the clash with Brighton & Hove Albion, providing a mixed update on team fitness and offering strong praise for captain Bruno Fernandes.
Amorim confirmed that while the squad is generally “fine,” both Harry Maguire and Mason Mount picked up knocks in midweek and are considered doubts. “We have some doubts. We had some issues during the week with Harry Maguire and Mason Mount.
Knocks but nothing serious. We will see tomorrow,” he stated. Lisandro Martinez, however, is closer to a full return, with the boss confirming the defender is “near to start the training with the team” and is “responding really well” in individual work.
The manager reserved his highest praise for Bruno Fernandes, set to make his 300th appearance, defending the captain’s intense demeanor. Amorim admitted the player was “a little bit different what I was expecting,” but explained his passion:
“He wants the responsibility all the time. He suffered a lot with the losses. Every time we don’t win a game, you can feel it, that he takes it personally, as he should be as a captain.”
Looking ahead to Brighton, Amorim called them a “really complete” and “really intense” side, urging his team to maintain focus and not get complacent following their recent victory over Liverpool.
On the media’s doubts about his tenure, Amorim maintained a consistent message: “I just want to maintain some calm, some direction in what we are doing.”
