Adrian Liso scored a brace to lead Getafe to a 2-1 victory over Sevilla in LaLiga, while Athletic Bilbao defeated Rayo Vallecano 1-0 thanks to a penalty converted by Oihan Sancet. Getafe and Bilbao join Villarreal, Barcelona, and Real Madrid as the only teams with two wins from two at the start of the 2025-26 season. Luis Milla provided two assists for Getafe, marking a career milestone.
Getafe continued their impressive start to the 2025-26 LaLiga season with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Sevilla, fueled by a brilliant brace from Adrian Liso. Meanwhile, Athletic Bilbao secured their second consecutive win, edging past Rayo Vallecano 1-0 in an earlier Monday fixture.
The match between Getafe and Sevilla at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez proved to be a captivating encounter. Liso opened the scoring in the 15th minute, capitalizing on a well-worked short corner routine. Luis Milla’s pass found Liso, whose shot took a deflection off Akor Adams, wrong-footing Sevilla goalkeeper Orjan Nyland.
Sevilla, under the guidance of new manager Matias Almeyda, sought an immediate response. They found an equalizer on the stroke of halftime, albeit through an unfortunate own goal. Juanlu Sanchez delivered a dangerous ball from the right flank, which was inadvertently headed into his own net by Juan Iglesias.
The second half saw Getafe regain their momentum. Liso struck again in the 51st minute, completing his brace. A clever combination with Milla once more unlocked the Sevilla defense, allowing Liso to calmly slot the ball into the bottom-left corner.
Despite falling behind, Sevilla refused to surrender. They launched wave after wave of attacks, with Isaac Romero hitting the woodwork and Adams forcing a smart save from Getafe goalkeeper David Soria. However, Getafe’s resolute defense held firm, securing a valuable three points.
Getafe’s victory propelled them to fourth in the early LaLiga standings, trailing only Villarreal, Barcelona, and Real Madrid, all of whom have also started the season with two wins. This marks only the second time in their history that Getafe have won their first two league games of a LaLiga season, the previous occasion being in 2006-07.

Earlier in the day, Athletic Bilbao continued their winning streak with a narrow 1-0 victory over Rayo Vallecano. The decisive moment arrived in the 66th minute when Athletic substitute Oihan Sancet was brought down by Gerard Gumbau inside the penalty area.
After a prolonged VAR review, referee Juan Martinez Munuera awarded a penalty to Athletic Bilbao. Sancet stepped up and confidently converted the spot-kick, securing the win for his team.
This result means that five teams – Villarreal, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bilbao, and Getafe – have achieved maximum points from their first two LaLiga matches, a feat not seen since the 2013-14 season. The early stages of the 2025-26 LaLiga campaign are proving to be highly competitive and entertaining.
Beyond Liso’s goals, the performance of Luis Milla was particularly noteworthy. He delivered two assists in a single LaLiga match for the first time in his career, a significant achievement in his 139th appearance in the Spanish top flight. His creative playmaking was instrumental in Getafe’s attacking success.
For Sevilla, the defeat represents a disappointing start to Matias Almeyda’s tenure. While the team showed glimpses of promise, defensive vulnerabilities and a lack of clinical finishing ultimately cost them dearly. Almeyda will need to address these issues quickly if Sevilla are to challenge for a European spot this season.
