Pisa stun Milan in thrilling 2-2 draw

Milan were stunned by Pisa’s comeback but rescued a draw through Athekame’s late equaliser.

AC Milan were held to a 2-2 draw by bottom-placed Pisa at the San Siro, as a late goal from Zachary Athekame rescued Massimiliano Allegri’s side after a second-half collapse.

Rafael Leão put Milan ahead early, curling home a low finish after just seven minutes. The Rossoneri dominated the first half with Luka Modrić and Youssouf Fofana dictating play, while Pisa struggled to create clear chances. Leão nearly doubled the lead but was denied after Pisa goalkeeper Adrian Semper fumbled a cross.

After the break, Pisa fought back and levelled from the penalty spot on the hour mark. A VAR check confirmed a handball by Koni De Winter, allowing Juan Cuadrado to convert calmly from 12 yards. The equaliser unsettled Milan, who lost control and invited pressure as Pisa grew in confidence.

Leão struck the bar and Alexis Saelemaekers went close twice, but Pisa struck late through M’Bala Nzola to take a shock 2-1 lead. Just as defeat loomed, substitute Athekame salvaged a point in added time, finishing from Modrić’s pass to make it 2-2.

Despite dominating possession, Milan were left frustrated by defensive lapses and missed chances, while Alberto Gilardino’s side earned a famous point at San Siro.
