Maresca’s Chelsea suffer dramatic Sunderland defeat: Player ratings as Pedro and Guiu get 4/10

Chelsea fell to a dramatic 2-1 home defeat against newly-promoted Sunderland, despite taking an early lead, with Bobby Vincent dissecting the Blues’ individual player performances.

Chelsea suffered a disappointing 1-2 Premier League defeat at home to Sunderland after Chemsdine Talbi struck into the bottom corner on 93 minutes, according to Football.London’s player ratings.

The loss, only the Blues’ third of the season, saw Enzo Maresca’s side fail to build on an early lead after the manager made eight changes from the midweek win over Ajax.

Player ratings

Robert Sanchez (5.8): Stood no chance against either of Sunderland’s goal.

Marc Cucurella (5.9): Not one of his best performances. Struggled to make telling impact as there was not much space to explore.

Josh Acheampong (6.6): Had a strong outing for the host but played Sunderland onside for their equalizer.

Trevor Chalobah (6.2): Saw a lot of the ball and was spot on with his passing, but struggled with duels.

Reece James (5.8): A disappointing performance from the captain by the standard as he never truly got into his strides. Did okay with tackles but didn’t offer much going forward.

Moises Caicedo (6.2): Had little influence despite seeing much of the ball as Chelsea failed to threaten Sunderland’s packed defence.

Enzo Fernandez (6.5): Another player who couldn’t influence the game as much as Maresca would have wanted. Had a difficult chance but couldn’t beat Roefs.

Alejandro Garnacho (7/10): Finally scored his first goal for Chelsea with a neat finish between the legs of the goalkeeper to get the host off to a good start. Couldn’t do much more afterwards.

Pedro Neto (6/10): Excellent through ball to setup Garnacho. One of Chelsea’s best attacker but lacked true penetration.

Joao Pedro (4.4): A forgettable afternoon for the Brazilian in what was his worst performance in Chelsea colours. Looked lost all game.

Marc Guiu (4.2): Struggled to make impression on his first Premier League side against his former team. Barely get up to 10 touches in his 76 minutes.
