Ruben Amorim has moved to reshape Manchester United by parting ways with players who reportedly disappointed former boss Erik ten Hag.
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has taken decisive steps to rebuild his squad, moving on players who were said to have let down Erik ten Hag before his dismissal last season.
Ten Hag, who was sacked after a poor start despite winning both domestic cups, had reportedly felt “particularly let down” by Marcus Rashford, Casemiro, and Antony. The Dutchman believed the trio could have done more to save his job.
Amorim, who succeeded him in November 2024, faced similar challenges but acted swiftly. He clashed with Rashford early on, dropped him from the squad, and later loaned him to Aston Villa before the forward secured a move to Barcelona, where he now hopes to stay permanently.
Antony also failed to impress Amorim and was sold to Real Betis for £22 million after a loan spell, representing a £60 million loss for United. Casemiro, meanwhile, narrowly avoided a move away after no club met his £15 million valuation.
Despite this, the veteran midfielder has become one of Amorim’s most reliable players, contributing a goal and an assist in United’s recent 4-2 win over Brighton. His resurgence has been credited to Amorim’s tactical setup and the reduced fixture load, which has allowed the Brazilian to regain consistency.
