Luke Shaw supports Ruben Amorim’s firm approach to fix Man Utd’s ‘toxic’ culture after a disastrous season. Shaw praises Amorim’s demands for 100% effort and commitment, emphasizing the need for a healthy and positive environment within the squad.
Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has voiced his support for head coach Ruben Amorim's stringent methods to overhaul the club's previously "toxic" and "unhealthy" environment. Shaw, whose season was hampered by injury, witnessing a disastrous campaign where United finished a dismal 15th, their worst-ever Premier League standing.
Amorim has responded to last season's failures by pledging to raise standards within the squad. Several players have been shown the door, including Marcus Rashford's departure to Barcelona, and Alejandro Garnacho being made available for transfer. The arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have been seen as positive changes. Shaw believes that Amorim's efforts are steering the club in the right direction.
"It's clear from the outside what it's been like," Shaw commented. "For much of my time here, it's been overwhelmingly negative. The environment can be quite toxic, not healthy at all. We need a healthy environment, one that's positive, with good energy and happiness. When you have those elements, you feel free and express yourself more."
Shaw emphasized the importance of mentality, saying Amorim "demands 100% and won't accept less. If someone's giving 85-90%, it's not enough. If you're not doing the right things, you won't play. He's tough on the group, leaving no stone unturned. Everyone must put the team first; he's made that very clear."
With United ending the season with a relatively young lineup, Shaw believes that senior players must take responsibility for upholding standards. "The more experienced players need to demand more, day in, day out," Shaw urged, emphasizing the importance of punctuality and maintaining high levels in training. "The manager isn't concerned about who the player is. He expects everyone to deliver, and we're fully behind that."
Manchester United will kick off their Premier League campaign against Arsenal at Old Trafford on August 17, with a Premier League Summer Series match against Bournemouth beforehand.
