Bukayo Saka discusses his strong relationship with manager Mikel Arteta, crediting the coach’s trust and evolution for his own development and the team’s success this season.
Arsenal star Bukayo Saka has offered an insightful glimpse into his close relationship with manager Mikel Arteta, describing the Spaniard as the perfect coach for his development.
Saka, who made his debut in 2018 under Unai Emery, has flourished under Arteta to become one of the world’s elite players and a crucial member of the Gunners’ leadership group.
Arteta has shown immense faith in Saka since taking charge when the player was just 19, often trusting him with the captain’s armband in Martin Ødegaard’s absence. The feeling of mutual belief is clearly shared by the England international.
Speaking in an in-depth interview with Sky Sports, Saka emphasized the deep-rooted trust that defines their working partnership.
He said: “I think the relationship’s always been really good with Mikel. He’s always put a lot of trust in me from a young age until now. I’m always grateful for that and for the fact he always believed in me.”
Saka went on to reveal that Arteta’s past experiences, both as a player and manager, have directly contributed to his coaching prowess. He suggested these struggles have created a more complete, evolved leader.
The star added: “So, there’s not much more I can ask from my coach. For me, he does what he needs to do. I don’t need much as a player.
I think naturally he’s evolved. With the different experiences he’s gone through, the ups and downs, and I think he’s a better coach for it.”
With Arsenal currently sitting top of the league, Saka’s belief in the manager appears to be shared by the squad as they pursue the title.
