‘I loved playing under him’: Rashford reflects on Solskjær era

Marcus Rashford has praised former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær, recalling the Norwegian’s positive influence and leadership during his tenure at Old Trafford.

Marcus Rashford has spoken warmly about his time under Ole Gunnar Solskjær at Manchester United, crediting the Norwegian manager for creating a strong, motivating environment that helped him perform at his best.

Solskjær, who managed the club between 2018 and 2021, initially joined on an interim basis from Molde before earning a permanent deal after an impressive start. His familiarity with the club as a former player helped him build trust and connection with the squad, producing stretches of entertaining football that saw several players thrive.

Rashford was among those who flourished, describing Solskjær as both “a fantastic person” and an inspiring coach. He told TV2: “Ole is a fantastic person. I loved playing under him. I can speak for many of the players at Manchester United when I say that we enjoyed playing for him.”

However, Solskjær’s tenure faced difficulties in its later stages, with the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo often cited as a turning point in team dynamics. Despite those challenges leading to his exit in 2021, Rashford said the manager’s legacy remains positive.

Now on loan at Barcelona, the England forward said Solskjær’s leadership created lasting memories for players who valued his human touch and understanding of what it meant to represent Manchester United.
