Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has admitted he considered quitting during his turbulent first season but says he now feels confident the club made the right choice.
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has revealed he questioned his future at the club during his turbulent first year in charge.
Amorim, who marks his one-year anniversary as United manager on Saturday when they face Nottingham Forest, endured a difficult start after arriving from Sporting. He finished 15th in his debut Premier League season, lost the Europa League final, and won just one of his first five games this term.
“It’s hard to say that. Sometimes, in some moments,” Amorim admitted. “There were some moments that were tough to deal with, to lose so many games. That was so hard for me because this is Manchester United. I struggled a lot and was thinking maybe it’s not meant to be. Today is the opposite… I know that was the best decision of my life.”
United have since won five of their last seven league games, including against Chelsea and Liverpool, rekindling hopes of a top-four finish.
Amorim also responded to earlier comments from Nottingham Forest boss Sean Dyche, who claimed he could “win more games with that squad playing a 4-4-2.” Amorim replied, “Maybe it is true… but I have a way of playing that takes time.”
Dyche later clarified his remarks, saying: “Clickbait kills everything… I wasn’t questioning Amorim. He’s adapted his style and deserves credit.”
Both managers will meet at the City Ground on Saturday in what promises to be a charged encounter.
