Peter Grant believes signing Hibernian’s Kieran Bowie would have been a better decision for Celtic than acquiring Kelechi Iheanacho.
According to Soccernet.ng reporting, Celtic legend Peter Grant has stated that signing Kieran Bowie from Hibernian would have been a superior move for the club than the acquisition of Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho.
Celtic signed Iheanacho as a free agent after he left Sevilla to fill the void left by Adam Idah. While Iheanacho started strongly with two goals and one assist in his first three games, his output has since slowed, contributing just one goal in his next five matches before a recent injury sidelined him. The Hoops have struggled offensively this season, scoring only 16 goals in 10 Premiership games.
Grant believes the team’s attack is unbalanced, with Iheanacho being left-footed like most of Celtic’s attackers. He openly advocated for Bowie, stating, “I still think there were players here in Scotland that you could have made your team better with. There is no doubt in my mind.”
“See on deadline day. I would have made a go for Bowie at Hibs. If you are thinking right, I have lost a striker,” Grant said. “I am going to pay a few bob for him, because this kid is going to get better. He is strong. He is Scottish, and he can play in the Scottish game. He has proved it. Something like that. You don’t need analytics to tell you this kid could be your goalscorer.”
This season, Bowie has three goals and one assist in 11 league appearances for Hibernian, while Iheanacho has two goals in four appearances.
