Luis De la Fuente dismisses Carvajal-Yamal spat impact on Spain squad

Spain national team manager Luis de la Fuente has publicly addressed the recent post-match altercation between Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal and Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal following the first El Clásico of the season, assuring that the incident will not cause issues within the national team camp.

According to Barca Universal, which cited reporting from MARCA, De la Fuente appeared completely relaxed about the heated exchange, despite the fact that the two players, both key members of the national squad,.had to be separated after Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The La Roja coach believes the rivalry will not affect the group’s cohesion ahead of the upcoming World Cup, stating:

“There has never been any incident, any strange behaviour from anyone. There are no schoolyard fights. The feeling is one of family, of unity, prioritising the common good over individual gain. That says a lot about this group of footballers.”

De la Fuente confirmed he sees no need to intervene directly, noting, “I think that now it’s up to their clubs to talk; the people at their clubs are responsible. I’ve spoken a lot with Lamine, as well as with Dani Carvajal, and with everyone else.”

Instead of focusing on the spat, the manager preferred to highlight their positive connection:

“I’ll always remember the European Championship, Lamine’s cross and Carvajal’s finish, the hug they shared, their faces, that’s what happens in the national team. I’m totally and absolutely convinced that the common good is what matters here,” he concluded.
