Ferran Torres’s transformation’ in central role under Flick

Barcelona forward Ferran Torres has experienced a “complete transformation” under head coach Hansi Flick, with new statistical analysis highlighting a remarkable efficiency boost since the German manager’s arrival.

According to Barca Universal reporting, the key difference lies in Torres’s tactical deployment: where former coach Xavi Hernandez largely restricted him to the wings, Flick has trusted the Spaniard to operate primarily as a number nine, a pure central striker. This shift has dramatically reshaped his output and confidence.

The former Manchester City forward recently reached an impressive milestone of 50 goals for Barcelona, with the total split exactly in half: 25 goals scored under Xavi and 25 under Flick.

However, the contrast in speed is staggering. The report notes that under Xavi, it took Torres 113 matches to reach his first 25 goals. In sharp contrast, Torres achieved his second 25 goals under Flick in just 57 games, less than half the number of appearances.

Under Flick, Torres has been deployed as a central forward in 30 of his 57 appearances, yielding 14 goals. By comparison, under Xavi, he only played 20 games as a striker, netting 5 times.

For a player once heavily linked with an exit, Torres’s resurgence is a “powerful reminder of what can happen when talent meets trust and tactical clarity.” He now ranks 51st on Barcelona’s all-time scorers list, surpassing the legendary Thierry Henry.
