Leroy Sane back in Germany squad in shock move by Nagelsmann

Leroy Sane has been recalled to the German national team, ending months of uncertainty over his international future following his summer transfer to Galatasaray, according to reports from Goal.

National coach Julian Nagelsmann has named the 25-man squad for the final 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Luxembourg and Slovakia, marking Sane’s return for the first time since his move from Bayern Munich.

Sane’s inclusion comes after Nagelsmann had publicly cast doubt on the winger’s place, labelling the Turkish Super Lig a “worse league.” However, the coach has now confirmed his faith in the 29-year-old, stating:

“I’ve been in constant and very good communication with Leroy Sane; he earned his nomination with strong performances in the Champions League and the Super Lig.”

The most eye-catching selection, however, is the shock first senior call-up for 19-year-old Koln winger Said El Mala. The breakout talent has impressed with four goals in nine Bundesliga appearances, primarily coming off the bench.

His inclusion over other established talents, including Bayern Munich wonderkid Lennart Karl, signals Nagelsmann’s long-term planning. The coach explained his hopes for the teenager:

“Said El Mala should show his true colors with us, bringing all his carefree and lighthearted style.”

Germany currently leads Group A, level on points with Slovakia, making the upcoming fixtures critical for automatic World Cup qualification.

Nagelsmann’s squad is currently navigating a raft of absences, with Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Antonio Rudiger, Jamal Musiala, Kai Havertz, and Niclas Fullkrug all unavailable due to injury.
