Ruben Amorim acknowledged Cristiano Ronaldo’s criticisms of Manchester United’s past mistakes, emphasizing the club’s current efforts to change structures and improve, while Ronaldo maintained his scathing view of their present state.
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has directly addressed and conceded the validity of Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent scathing criticism of the club’s structure, according to reporting by the Mirror.
Ronaldo, who left the club in December 2022, took aim at his former employers during an interview with Piers Morgan, arguing that Amorim was fighting an impossible battle due to deep-seated issues.
Speaking at a press conference, Amorim agreed with the spirit of Ronaldo’s comments regarding the club’s past actions, but insisted that the focus must now be on correcting those errors and building a new foundation.
“Of course, he knows he has huge impact on everything he says,” Amorim said of the star’s statement. “But what we need to focus on is in future. We know as a club we made a lot of mistakes in the past. We are trying to change that.”
Ronaldo had passionately expressed his sadness for the club, saying: “For me, I’m sad because of the club, that’s one of the most important clubs in the world, and a club that I still have in my heart because of the obvious reasons.”
He also stated that United currently “don’t have a structure” and praised Amorim for “doing his best,” but cautioned, “Miracles is impossible.”
Amorim concluded by stressing the club’s commitment to internal improvements: “Let’s not focus on what happened. We need to focus on the future. Let’s focus on the way we are doing things.
We are changing a lot of things, the structure, the way we want the players to behave, we are improving. Let’s forget a little bit the past.”
