FIFA has unveiled a new Peace Prize, with President Gianni Infantino strongly praising Donald Trump and suggesting he could be the inaugural recipient, amidst their close working relationship and Ivanka Trump’s involvement in a FIFA education project.
FIFA has announced the creation of a new award, the Fifa Peace Prize, which is set to “recognise exceptional actions for peace,” according to a statement released on Wednesday. The inaugural award is slated to be presented at the World Cup draw on December 5 in Washington.
The announcement comes after FIFA President Gianni Infantino was questioned about the potential first recipient, specifically whether US President Donald Trump, who was recently passed over for the Nobel Peace Prize, would receive the honour. “On the 5th of December, you will see,” Infantino stated.
The FIFA President’s remarks, made at the America Business Forum in Miami shortly after President Trump addressed the event, made clear the nature of their relationship. Infantino told the audience: “I’m really lucky. I have a great relationship with President Trump, who I consider really a close friend.”
Infantino continued to praise the U.S. President’s character, citing his energy and decisiveness. “He has such an incredible energy and this is something that I really admire.
He does things. He does what he says. He says what he thinks. He says, actually, what many people think as well, but maybe don’t dare to say. And that’s why he’s so successful,” Infantino commented.
The Morning Star Online report notes that FIFA recently deepened its ties to the Trump family by appointing his daughter, Ivanka, to the board of a $100 million education project partially funded by 2026 World Cup ticket sales.
The awarding of the peace prize is expected to be viewed by approximately one billion people worldwide.
