Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS reaches agreement with Spurs to end legal row

Tottenham Hotspur and INEOS have reached a confidential out-of-court settlement ending their legal dispute over a failed sponsorship deal.

Tottenham Hotspur and INEOS have reached a settlement to end their ongoing legal battle over a failed sponsorship agreement, according to The Athletic’s reporting.

Both parties confirmed the development but declined to share details of the out-of-court resolution. The Telegraph reported that INEOS, owned by Manchester United part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, agreed to pay Tottenham an undisclosed sum.

The dispute began after INEOS Automotive, a subsidiary of the company, withdrew from a sponsorship agreement signed in December 2022. The deal, worth nearly £17.5 million, was meant to promote the ‘INEOS Grenadier’ brand for almost five years.

Tottenham filed a claim in June, accusing INEOS of failing to pay a £480,000 indexation fee and a £5.1 million sponsorship payment. The club argued that these failures constituted a “material breach of the agreement.” INEOS counter-sued, maintaining that it had the right to terminate the contract through a December 2024 letter, effective June 2025.

The company further claimed Tottenham owed it £1.07 million in damages for the 112 days between March and June 2025 when the rights were allegedly withheld. Both sides have now agreed to move on from the dispute.
