Henrik Pedersen has officially been named the new manager of Sheffield Wednesday, marking a significant step in his career. Pedersen, who initially joined the club in October 2023 as an assistant manager, steps into the top role following Danny Rohl’s departure. Rohl’s tenure saw the Owls win 34 out of 89 games, a 38.2% success rate, setting a solid foundation for Pedersen to build upon.
Pedersen brings a wealth of managerial experience, having previously led Eintracht Braunschweig, Stromsgodset, and Vendsyssel FF. His background also includes various roles within the Red Bull group, adding a diverse perspective to his coaching style.
In his statement on the club website, Pedersen expressed his deep sense of pride and commitment. "I am incredibly, incredibly proud to become manager of this wonderful football club," he stated. He also acknowledged the challenges ahead, urging fans to remain patient as he begins his tenure.
"Since arriving in Sheffield with my family, the city immediately felt like our home. The people are what makes a city special, and the fans are what makes a football club special," Pedersen added, highlighting the connection he feels with the club and its supporters.
Acknowledging potential difficulties, Pedersen drew inspiration from his Danish heritage. "Is this going to be easy? No! We are maybe in 'rough waters' at the moment, but as a proud Dane, I can tell you that, like our Viking ancestors, stormy seas don’t bother us too much. You have to get used to it, to weather the storm to get to calmer waters."
Pedersen concluded his message with a call for unity. "To the fans, I ask that we stick together. At times, we may need to be a little patient as we strive to grow. We all care deeply and will do all we can to bring the great times back to Hillsborough." His first challenge will be an away game against Leicester City on August 10.
