Revolution’s Alhassan Yusuf gets Nigeria World Cup call

New England Revolution midfielder Alhassan Yusuf has been summoned by Nigeria for their crucial FIFA World Cup Qualifying Playoff matches this November in Morocco.

According to RevolutionSoccer.net reporting, New England Revolution midfielder Alhassan Yusuf has received a call-up to the Nigeria Men’s National Team for international duty, participating in the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifying Playoff matches.

Yusuf and the Super Eagles are set to face Gabon in a single-leg semifinal match on Thursday, November 13, at 11:00 a.m. ET.

Should Nigeria emerge victorious, they will advance to the final on Sunday, November 16 (3:00 p.m. ET), where they will play the winner of the second semifinal between Cameroon and D.R. Congo.

All playoff matches will be held in Morocco. The winner of this final will secure a spot in the inter-confederation play-offs in March 2026.

Nigeria qualified for the playoff round as one of the four best group runners-up from the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) Group C, finishing with a 4-1-5 record.

The 25-year-old midfielder has eight senior caps for Nigeria, having last played in March against Rwanda as a second-half substitute. He was also previously selected for two World Cup Qualifying matches in October but did not feature.

Yusuf’s international experience includes three appearances in World Cup Qualifying and three additional appearances during the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations, where Nigeria finished as runners-up to host Cote d’Ivoire.

In his second Major League Soccer campaign in 2025, Yusuf proved to be a key player for New England, tallying two goals and two assists while starting in 32 of his 34 total appearances.
