Chelle names 24-man squad for Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup play-off in Morocco

According to a report from AfricanFootball.com, Nigeria have announced a 24-man squad for next week’s 2026 FIFA World Cup African Play-off Tournament scheduled to take place in Rabat, Morocco.

Head coach Eric Chelle will lead the Super Eagles into the competition, with their opening fixture set against Gabon in the first semi-final on November 13 at the Complexe Sportif Prince Heritier Moulay Al Hassan in Rabat.

The second semi-final will see Cameroon face DR Congo at the El-Barid Stadium on the same day.Nigeria will be without key defender Oluwasemilogo Ajayi, who is suspended for one game after accumulating two yellow cards during the 10-match qualifying campaign. The Hull City centre-back will therefore miss the crucial encounter with Gabon.

The report also confirmed that players are expected to arrive in Morocco from their various clubs across Europe and other continents by November 10, to commence final preparations ahead of the semi-final fixture.

The goalkeeping department features Stanley Nwabali (Chippa United, South Africa), Amas Obasogie (Singida Blackstars, Tanzania), and Maduka Okoye (Udinese, Italy).

In defence, Chelle has called up William Troost-Ekong (Al-Kholood, Saudi Arabia), Calvin Bassey (Fulham, England), Bright Osayi-Samuel (Birmingham City, England), Bruno Onyemaechi (Olympiakos, Greece), Chidozie Awaziem (Nantes, France), Zaidu Sanusi (FC Porto, Portugal), and Benjamin Fredericks (Dender, Belgium).

The midfield options include Alex Iwobi (Fulham, England), Frank Onyeka (Brentford, England), Alhassan Yusuf Abdullahi (New England Revolution, USA), Wilfred Ndidi (Besiktas, Turkey), and Raphael Onyedika (Club Brugge, Belgium).

Leading the attack are Ademola Lookman (Atalanta, Italy), Samuel Chukwueze (Fulham, England), Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray, Turkey), Simon Moses (Paris FC, France), Chidera Ejuke (Sevilla, Spain), Tolu Arokodare (Wolves, England), Akor Adams (Sevilla, Spain), and Olakunle Olusegun (Pari Nizhny Novgorod, Russia).
