Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has provided insight into the club’s transfer strategy for the upcoming January window, confirming that the club remains attentive to opportunities despite the high quality of his current squad.
The comments followed PSG’s hard-fought 3-2 victory over Lyon, a contest sealed by Joao Neves’ stoppage-time header that returned the team to the top of the Ligue 1 table.
According to a report from Goal.com, while Enrique praised the team’s resilience, he was quick to highlight defensive vulnerabilities that emerged during the dramatic encounter.
Enrique stated that although the team showed fight, defensive refinement is necessary, particularly citing the alignment for the goals conceded.Speaking after the match, Enrique said:
“Resilience is what I wanted to see. We fought until the end, but we need to defend better. Both goals came from poor alignment. You can’t push the line up when there’s no pressure on the ball.”
When addressing questions about potential January transfer activity, Enrique struck a measured tone, acknowledging the perennial need to remain active in the market but stressing the difficulty of finding suitable reinforcements for a team of PSG’s standing.
He reaffirmed that PSG are “always open to strengthening,” but emphasised the rigorous criteria for any new arrivals.
“Reinforcing a team of this quality is very difficult. There are very few players who can truly strengthen this team,” he said. Enrique also expressed his complete faith in his existing roster:
“We have complete confidence in our current players. We won’t make any signings if someone else thinks we need them.”
The manager’s statements suggest the club is pursuing a focused, sustainable transfer strategy defined by tactical precision rather than simply increasing squad size.
The club has been linked with defensive reinforcements, including Barcelona’s Eric Garcia, a player Enrique knows well from his time with the Spanish national team.
PSG are reportedly preparing a €5 million winter bid for the 24-year-old defender, whose contract expires next summer.
Enrique concluded that the club clearly hopes to have a “well-thought-out team and a balanced squad,” noting there are many young players who can still develop and contribute.
