Nigeria players’ Morocco hotel stay sparks debate

Alex Iwobi’s video of the Super Eagles’ Rive Hotel in Morocco sparked online criticism over its surroundings, but Iwobi later clarified he was simply appreciating the view, not complaining about the team’s accommodation.

The accommodation of the Super Eagles in Rabat, Morocco, has become the center of controversy after a viral video posted by midfielder Alex Iwobi showed surrounding buildings that critics compared to unhygienic police barracks.

An official of the Super Eagles dismissed the social media complaints while also confirming to Peoples Gazette that the team is staying at the Rive Hotel. The official told the paper that it is only the surrounding area of the facility that looks awful.

According to a report from Peoples Gazette Nigeria, a review of the accommodation reveals Rive prides itself as a modern 4-star hotel located in the Hassan district of Rabat, providing a “very convenient location in the heart of Rabat’s vibrant Hassan district.”

The facility, which has four floors and rooms ranging from singles to suites costing between $107 and $244 as of November 10, 2025, has an overall 6.2/10 “good” rating from 81 verified reviewers on hotels.com.

However, the hotel’s location in close proximity to nightclubs has been a major source of complaint. One reviewer noted: “My room was on the second floor at the front of the hotel.

A nightclub which existed at the front of the hotel was open nearly every night until 4 or 5:00 a.m. Very noisy from 2:00 a.m. until 5:00 a.m. most nights.”

Another guest expressed disappointment, stating: “It was impossible to get to sleep in the room I was given on the second floor due to the music coming from the nightclub below, thump thump thump until 4:00 a.m.”

These reports of noise pollution raise questions about the suitability of the hotel for preparing professional athletes.
