Chalobah replaces Guehi in England squad

Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah is set to join the England squad for World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Serbia, replacing the injured Marc Guehi, with further withdrawals expected from Anthony Gordon and Nick Pope.

According to a report from BBC Sport, Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah is set to join the England squad as a replacement for injured Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi ahead of the final World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Serbia.

The 26-year-old is expected to link up with the team soon, although his inclusion has yet to be officially confirmed. England have already secured qualification for next summer’s tournament.

Chalobah first earned a call-up under England manager Thomas Tuchel in May and made his international debut against Senegal.

In September, Tuchel admitted the defender was “unfortunate” to miss out on selection for the qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia, while he was also omitted from the October squad.

Tuchel has been a major influence in Chalobah’s career, having handed him his Chelsea debut in 2021.

This season, the versatile defender has featured in all but four of the club’s matches, helping Chelsea maintain third place in the Premier League, reach the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, and progress through the Champions League league phase.

Meanwhile, Guehi sustained a foot injury in Palace’s Conference League victory over AZ Alkmaar. Further changes to the England squad are expected, with Eddie Howe confirming that Anthony Gordon (hip) and Nick Pope (concussion) will also withdraw.
