Hannibal Mejbri charged for spitting at Leeds fans

Hannibal Mejbri has been hit with a Football Association misconduct charge for allegedly spitting at Leeds United fans during a Premier League match.

Burnley midfielder Hannibal Mejbri has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association (FA) following an allegation that he spat at or in the direction of Leeds United supporters during a Premier League fixture last month.

According to a report from Burnley Express, Burnley’s Hannibal Mejbri has been formally charged with misconduct by the Football Association over an alleged spitting incident during the club’s Premier League match against Leeds United.

The charge relates to an incident that occurred in the 67th minute of the Clarets’ 2-0 victory at Turf Moor on Saturday, October 18.

At the time of the alleged incident, Mejbri was among the substitutes, although he later entered the game in the 83rd minute and received a booking following a clash with Leeds defender Gabriel Gudmundsson.

The allegation stems from a complaint made by a supporter in the away section, which was subsequently passed on to the police by the visiting side. At the time, Lancashire Police confirmed they were working with Burnley to establish the facts.

An FA spokesperson released a statement outlining the charge:

“Burnley’s Hannibal Mejbri has been charged with misconduct following their Premier League fixture against Leeds United on Saturday 18 October. It’s alleged that the player acted in breach of the Laws of the Game and/or in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or indecent behaviour by spitting at or in the direction of Leeds United supporters around the 67th minute.”

The FA has given the player until Friday, November 28 to provide a response to the charge. Burnley boss Scott Parker, when previously asked about the matter during a pre-Wolves press conference, declined to comment due to the ongoing investigation, stating:

“I can’t comment on that. There’s a live investigation going on regarding that, so I can’t really comment on that at this present moment in time.”
