La Liga has escalated its fight against abusive behaviour in Spanish football by filing an official complaint regarding offensive chants heard during the recent fixture between FC Barcelona and Celta Vigo.
The incident, which took place at Balaídos Stadium, targeted both the club and specific players.
According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, La Liga sent detailed documentation to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) outlining a series of abusive chants that occurred during the previous round of La Liga fixtures.
The one involving the Celta Vigo vs Barcelona encounter has received particular attention due to the severity and repeated nature of the abuse.
The documentation outlines nine separate instances of verbal abuse recorded, emanating from a section of home supporters located in the central area of the lower stand.
These incidents included chants aimed directly at Lamine Yamal and Andreas Christensen, alongside repeated insults towards the club.
Two of the incidents have been classified as particularly serious. On several occasions, some fans were heard shouting “step on him, step on him” towards Lamine Yamal, while a similar chant was directed at Christensen in the 90th minute.
Additionally, the derogatory phrase “P*ta Barça” was reportedly chanted six times during the game by a group near the scoreboard.
This group also launched personal abuse at Yamal, using phrases such as “Ckold, ckold” and encouraging players to “step on him” again during the latter stages.
The chanting continued for approximately ten seconds in a collective manner before stewards intervened.La Liga included each of these instances in its complaint, emphasising that such actions violate the league’s anti-violence and anti-discrimination protocols.
