Dayot Upamecano addresses Bayern future amidst Liverpool interest

Dayot Upamecano commented on his uncertain Bayern Munich future following Liverpool and Real Madrid transfer links, as Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish detailed why Marc Guehi’s summer move to Anfield fell through.

Bayern Munich centre-back Dayot Upamecano has publicly addressed the ongoing speculation surrounding his future at the German club, a situation that has put Liverpool on high alert, especially following the Reds’ failed summer move for Marc Guehi.

The defender’s contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign, which could allow him to leave on a free transfer.

According to a report from L’Equipe, Upamecano, who is currently with the French national team, stated: “My agent is taking care of it. We will make the right decision. I am receiving good advice.

I am focused on this season and my goals with the club and the national team. I don’t have the headspace for it.”

The mounting transfer speculation was recently acknowledged by Bayern’s director of sport, Max Eberl, who confirmed that other clubs are actively engaging with the player’s representatives.

Eberl said: “It’s normal if other clubs are calling his agents, it’s part of the game. I’ve already said that we want to do our best and get new contract done. We are on it.”

Liverpool’s interest intensified after their attempt to sign Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi for £35 million collapsed on deadline day, a deal vetoed by Palace chairman, Steve Parish.

Parish later revealed that keeping Guehi was part of a strategy to have a better season and secure their first-ever place in the Conference League.

Despite the links to Liverpool, it was also claimed, less than 24 hours after Liverpool’s Champions League victory over Real Madrid last week, that the Spanish giants had reached a verbal agreement to sign Upamecano in the summer.
