Transfer Merry-Go-Round: Upamecano decision threatens Guehi’s Liverpool switch

Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano’s agent is handling his contract situation as speculation about a potential Premier League or Real Madrid move intensifies, while Liverpool previously pursued Marc Guehi.

The potential transfer of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi to Liverpool could be abandoned as the agent of Bayern Munich star Dayot Upamecano is “taking care” of a possible switch to the Premier League, according to a report from National World.

The French defender’s contract with Bayern expires at the end of the season, meaning he could walk away on a free transfer this summer.

Upamecano has been linked with Liverpool after the Reds failed to secure Guehi from Crystal Palace during the summer transfer window.

Speaking to L’Equipe, the French international addressed the growing speculation: “My agent is taking care of it. We will make the right decision. I’m getting good advice.

Right now, I’m focused on this season and my goals with the club and the national team. “I don’t have the headspace for it.”

Guehi, whose contract also expires at the end of the season, had a medical on deadline day last summer, but Palace blocked the move after they failed to find a replacement. Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish later commented on the decision:

“We felt we’d have a better season if we kept Marc. This is our first time in the Conference League – it’s a unique situation. “If we were just fighting for mid-table, maybe we’d have taken the money.”

The report suggests the situation could trigger a ‘triple merry-go-round.’ Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate has been tipped for a move to Real Madrid—who have also been linked with Upamecano—which would open a spot at Anfield for either Guehi or the departing Bayern star.
