Boxing trainer Michael McNally, who appeared on The Overlap with Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher, has been jailed for 17 years for trafficking millions in drugs and possessing an illegal firearm.
Former boxing trainer Michael McNally, who once appeared on a popular football pundit show with Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison after pleading guilty to a string of serious drug and firearm offences.
According to a report from GiveMeSport, a boxing trainer who notably featured alongside iconic football pundits Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for major drug and firearm offences.
Michael McNally, 42, gained widespread attention in February 2023 when he appeared on an episode of “The Overlap” filmed at Liverpool’s Rotunda ABC.
McNally, who formerly coached world champion Tony Bellew as an amateur, was seen throwing punches at Neville while Carragher laughed during the segment.
McNally was subsequently jailed at Liverpool crown court on November 7 after pleading guilty to a string of serious offences, including conspiracy to supply Class A drugs and possession of a prohibited firearm.
He had trafficked 50kg of heroin and 200kg of cocaine, valued at £18.5 million.
The trainer initially believed his use of the encrypted EncroChat mobile network—a platform “favoured by criminals”—made him “untouchable.”
However, international law enforcement infiltrated the software in 2020, allowing UK police to obtain messages from the user known as “LankyPanda.”
McNally was traced when he shared photos of police responding to a car crash outside his Bootle house and revealed he delivered drugs in a “white Kangoo van” that was “on a 66 plate.”
When police searched his property in May, they discovered a semi-automatic pistol with ammo in the loft, along with £23,000 in cash.
Jon Hughes, of the National Crime Agency, commented on the successful operation: “This operation has successfully taken a drug supplier out of the community, a dangerous weapon off the streets and cash out of the hands of criminals.”
