Barcelona’s Camp Nou will reopen its doors in two years after extensive renovations, allowing the team to return home.
FC Barcelona is finally set to return to its iconic home, the Spotify Camp Nou, after more than two years away, according to a report from FotMob.
The competitive homecoming match is scheduled for Saturday, November 22, where the Catalan giants will host Athletic Club.
The reigning La Liga champions last played at the ground on May 28, 2023, and have since played the majority of their fixtures at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium.
The return follows a successful test run earlier this month, where approximately 23,000 fans attended an open training session prior to the reopening.
The initial return will feature a reduced capacity of 45,401 spectators, permitted under the newly acquired Phase 1B license.
The club had previously dismissed returning under the Phase 1A license, which limited capacity to 25,991, as it was deemed financially unsatisfactory.
As a result of the partial reopening, the proposed maximum capacity of 105,000 has been cut in more than half. Currently, the entire lateral area, the tribune area, and the south goal area are open for spectators.
The club conveyed its excitement following the announcement: “We’ve dreamed about the return. Now, it’s here. We’re back home. Back at Spotify Camp Nou.”
Although construction work is still ongoing and not expected to be fully completed until 2027, the return date brings an end to a prolonged period of playing away.
Barcelona stated they are still working towards acquiring a Phase 1C license, which will allow activity in the north goal area.
