Real Madrid faces an anxious wait after key defender Eder Militao picked up a suspected adductor injury on international duty, casting doubt on his availability.
Real Madrid are facing a period of anxiety as they await definitive test results regarding a new injury sustained by key central defender Eder Militao while he was on international duty with Brazil, according to a report from Football España.
The injury concern comes as a blow, given that the defender has been an automatic starter under Xabi Alonso this season, underpinning the team’s largely solid start.
Militao has had a “miraculous” recovery this season after missing the “vast majority of the last two seasons with successive anterior cruciate ligament injuries in both legs.”
He has served as a consistent element in the backline for Los Blancos since his return.
The 27-year-old started Brazil’s match on Tuesday night, a 1-1 draw against Tunisia, having also started the previous 2-0 win against Senegal.
According to Marca, Militao “initially noticed discomfort in the back of his leg in the second minute,” but was not substituted until the 57th minute when the pain became more prominent.
Early signs suggest the issue is an injury to his adductor. The defender will now return to Madrid, where tests will be conducted to determine the full extent of the issue and the necessary recovery timeline.
The potential absence of the Brazilian international is concerning for the club, particularly with Carlo Ancelotti’s side aiming to maintain their form.
However, the report notes that the return of Antonio Rudiger is thought to be close, and he would be the “most likely replacement for Militao” in the defense.
Meanwhile, Brazil also utilized Rodrygo Goes and Vinicius Junior in both international fixtures. Vinicius played the full match against Tunisia, while Rodrygo was withdrawn after 79 minutes for Luiz Henrique.
Rodrygo also assisted Casemiro for Brazil’s second goal against Senegal.
