Former Manchester City star Jo was arrested in Rio de Janeiro over a court order for unpaid child maintenance, marking his fourth such detention.
Former Brazil international and Premier League footballer Jo was arrested in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on November 18 over a court order for unpaid child maintenance, according to a report from NationalWorld.
The footballer, whose full name is Joao Alves de Assis Silva, was detained by police while attending a barbecue at a street food kiosk in Barra da Tijuca.
The warrant was linked to a 2024 process, alleging he failed to pay maintenance to his ex, the influencer Maiara Quiderolly.
The outstanding debt specified in the order was 220,744.57 Brazilian reals (£31,500). After being detained, the former striker was taken to the 16a DP in Barra da Tijuca.
Reports indicate this marks at least the fourth time the player has been arrested for unpaid maintenance, having been previously detained twice in Campinas and once in Contagem in 2024 for the same issue.
On previous occasions, he was freed after successfully paying the sums demanded by the courts.
Jo enjoyed a notable career, playing for numerous major clubs, including Manchester City, Everton, Corinthians, and Atletico MG.
He was also part of the Brazil national team squad that competed in the 2014 World Cup.
