Tottenham target Ivan Toney is reportedly ready to slash his wages to secure a January return to the Premier League, aiming to rejoin the England squad ahead of next summer’s World Cup.
According to a report from Sports Mole, England international Ivan Toney is prepared to make a significant financial sacrifice to secure an immediate return to the Premier League in the January transfer window.
The 29-year-old striker, currently representing Al-Ahli in the Middle East, is reportedly willing to accept a substantial pay cut, slashing his current weekly wages in half to £200,000, in a dedicated effort to force a switch.
Toney’s primary motivation stems from his ambition to play a role in England’s squad at next summer’s World Cup.
Despite playing an important part for the Three Lions at Euro 2024, the report notes that Toney is desperately seeking to get back into manager Thomas Tuchel’s thinking.
The player feels he is “losing out” on the race to be Harry Kane’s second-choice striker—a role currently being contested by the likes of Ollie Watkins—the longer he remains in the Saudi Pro League.
The path back to North America hinges on Toney securing a Premier League move in the New Year and “hitting the ground running.”
Since moving to Al-Ahli in August 2024, Toney has performed well by his own standards, netting a total of 41 goals across 59 matches. This season alone, he has scored five goals in seven Saudi Pro League appearances.
A return to England appears highly likely, with multiple top clubs expressing firm interest. Tottenham Hotspur are cited as the current front runners in the race for his services.
Additionally, both West Ham United and Chelsea are believed to be considering possible moves for the former Brentford marksman.
Everton are also supposedly keen on signing the striker, although the Toffees are seeking assurances over Toney’s long-term commitment to the Merseyside club before proceeding with any deal.
Toney is pushing hard for the transfer as he prepares to do anything he can to secure a spot in the England squad next June.
