Newcastle United face Manchester City without the suspended Dan Burn, while Eddie Howe awaits fitness updates on key players ahead of the crucial Premier League fixture.
Newcastle United defender Dan Burn will miss the upcoming Premier League fixture against Manchester City at St James’ Park after receiving a one-match ban for a red card resulting from two bookable offences against Brentford.
According to a report from the Shields Gazette, Newcastle United faces a significant defensive setback ahead of their crucial Premier League fixture against Manchester City this Saturday at St James’ Park.
Defender Dan Burn has been officially ruled out of the 5:30 pm kick-off due to a suspension incurred during the Magpies’ recent 3-1 defeat at Brentford.
The 33-year-old was sent off after picking up a second booking during the match, having already received one earlier.
The report explains that Premier League rules specify that a sending-off resulting from two bookable offences carries a mandatory one-match ban, as opposed to the three-match ban for a straight red card.
Burn’s absence leaves a gap at left-back, a position he has been occupying in place of the injured Tino Livramento.
His suspension means manager Eddie Howe must find an immediate solution against the in-form Manchester City side, who the Magpies host in an attempt to bounce back from consecutive league defeats.
The report suggests Lewis Hall has been tipped for his first Premier League start at St James’ Park since February, having performed well off the bench recently. Burn will be available to return to Premier League action for the trip to Everton next Saturday (5:30 pm kick-off).
The defender is also currently sitting on three yellow cards and remains at risk of a further one-match ban if he accumulates five bookings in the opening 19 matches of the season.
