Man City Star ready for €15m bargain exit

Manuel Akanji has expressed his desire to turn his current loan spell with Serie A leaders Inter Milan into a permanent move next summer, with a transfer option valued at €15 million (£13.2m).

Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji has signaled his intention to leave the reigning Premier League champions next summer, hoping to secure a permanent transfer to Inter Milan after being deemed surplus to requirements at the Etihad.

The Switzerland international, who joined City in 2022 and made 136 appearances, was sent out on loan to the Serie A giants this summer.

Akanji is currently enjoying a successful spell at San Siro, helping Inter reach the top of the Italian league table and maintain a 100% winning record in the Champions League.

According to a report from FourFourTwo, the deal includes a reported €15 million (£13.2m) option to buy.

This fee is slated to become an obligation if Inter secure the Serie A title this season while Akanji participates in over half of their league matches.

Speaking to Tutto Mercato Web about his longer-term future in Italy, Akanji stated:

“I hope so. We’ll see what happens this season, then we’ll decide what to do with the club. I don’t know, it depends on how the season goes, but right now I’m very happy in Milan.”

The 30-year-old’s eventual departure seems likely, given he will have just one year remaining on his City contract next summer.

Manager Pep Guardiola maintains strong centre-back depth, including Ruben Dias, John Stones, and Nathan Ake, alongside the emergence of Nico O’Reilly and the signing of Rayan Ait-Nouri.
