Football legends gathered to honor Denis Law’s life and legacy at a memorial service in Aberdeen, celebrating his achievements and dedication to youth.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, a host of Manchester United and footballing legends assembled to honour the late Denis Law at a memorial service, with Sir Alex Ferguson among those paying heartfelt tribute.
The gathering, held at Manchester Cathedral, brought together past and present United figures, including Wayne Rooney, Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, Peter Schmeichel and Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Also in attendance were Den’s former teammates like Alex Stepney, Willie Morgan and Brian Kidd.
Ferguson described Law as one of United’s “greatest players… Part of the Holy Trinity with Sir Bobby (Charlton) and George (Best),” calling him not just a football icon but a remarkable human being.
“Trying to place Denis in the pantheon of the great players is made easier by Pelé … He said Denis Law … which is a fantastic tribute when you consider what a great player he was,” Ferguson remarked.
Earlier in life, Law had spoken about his deep connection to United: “I’m a Manc and support United … the club was part of his DNA.”
The service also acknowledged his personality: humble, generous, and beloved. Former teammate Kidd said, “Very humble.
I’ll never forget him, the ‘Lawman’… It’s a sad time.” In a final moving note, Sir Rod Stewart’s performance of Angel echoed through the cathedral, capping a fitting farewell to a true legend.
