Brendan Rodgers has initiated contract extension discussions with Celtic, but he has made it clear that his commitment hinges on the club's willingness to invest in the team's future. With just one year remaining on his current contract, Rodgers has confirmed he will fulfill his obligations regardless of whether an extension is agreed.
Celtic is coming off their third consecutive Scottish Premiership title and a knockout stage appearance in the Champions League, a feat they had not achieved since 2013. Under Rodgers' guidance, the club has secured 11 major trophies across two stints, including two domestic trebles. However, European success remains elusive.
In discussions with majority shareholder Dermot Desmond and chief executive Michael Nicholson, Rodgers has emphasized the need for tangible investment. He stated, "The club will either offer me a deal or they won't. Either way, until it's my very last day here, I'll give absolutely everything."
Rodgers expressed his deep connection to Celtic, saying, "As a Celtic guy, I love my time here... but there have been challenges." His primary concern is ensuring the club continues to progress. "I'm not the type of manager to just maintain something," he explained. "I need to build, I need to work with players, develop individual players."
Ahead of the 2025-26 season, Celtic has already added six new players, including Shin Yamada and the return of Kieran Tierney. The club is also nearing a loan deal for Manchester City defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey. Rodgers praised Simpson-Pusey's qualities, highlighting his speed, dominance, and ability to progress the ball. "We've taken him on loan for a year... he'll join our squad," Rodgers confirmed.
