Marcus Rashford joined former Manchester United teammates in supporting Paul Pogba’s emotional return to football after a two-year hiatus, following his debut for AS Monaco.
Following his long-awaited return to football, former Manchester United star Paul Pogba received widespread support from past and present teammates, including a “perfect response” from Marcus Rashford, according to a report from the Manchester Evening News.
Pogba, 32, had been sidelined for a significant period after being handed a provisional four-year suspension for testing positive for dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) in February 2024.
His ban was eventually reduced, and he returned to the pitch this weekend, making his debut for Ligue 1 side AS Monaco as a late substitute in their 4-1 defeat away at Rennes.
Pogba, who has always maintained the doping test was due to a mistake, had joined Monaco as a free agent in June after his contract with Juventus was mutually terminated at the end of 2024.
Speaking on Instagram following his comeback, Pogba shared an emotional statement: “Last night was unforgettable. Stepping back on to the pitch after two years away meant more to me than I can express.
To the fans, thank you for the love, the energy, and the belief. To everyone who stood behind me, supported me, and pushed me through every moment of this journey, I’m deeply grateful.
This debut wasn’t just mine… it belonged to all of you who never stopped supporting me.”
Rashford, currently on loan at Barcelona, responded with a simple red heart emoji in the comments. Current United captain Bruno Fernandes also showed support, commenting “Pogback,” while Jesse Lingard replied: “The boy’ss back.”
Pogba will now look to build fitness as Monaco prepares for a crucial Champions League match against Pafos.
